When you are Black, everyone wants to manage you!

if there is one thing I HATE about the workplace it is the fact that as a BLACK employee you always get the impression (which is not really a perception because it is a fact that has been confirmed by many Black people) that EVERYONE wants to manage you, everyone wants to be your boss or your supervisor even the COLLEAGUES who have the same rank as you? I have often asked myself what this means and finally I have come to the conclusion that it is either a superiority complex or just racism and the prejudice that the Black man is not intelligent enough. Imagine there are people who are born and raised with the idea that the Black people are not intelligent and don't know how to manage themselves. Look at the speeches of European politicians when it comes to the African continent. In a condescending and paternalistic tone they talk about the African people as if we know nothing and that without them nothing will work. On the contrary, without Africa hummm ...that's another subject.

Let's go back to the colleagues who like to play at being little bosses. They like to infantilize you by talking to you as if you were stupid and yet... At times it can be frustrating, you want to react but you say to yourself: "If you react accordingly... you'll be the one to pay the price. So you adapt your behavior, you try to take the emotional distance and you react as you can, of course always with a smile so as not to appear aggressive... What is your experience being Black/African in the professional environment? Have you ever had to deal with this kind of behavior from colleagues? Did you react? If yes, how? Thank you. And don't forget: Keep your head up!!!
